Compound Words and Clouds

This week we learned all about compound words. We learned that they are two words that come together to make one: rain + bow = rainbow. We watched a video with examples, read a book to locate some words and then sorted words that would make compound words.

During our Magazine Monday, we learned about spring weather in our Scholastic News. One of the topics was clouds. We did an investigation with pennies and droppers. I challenged the students to tell me how this experiment was like a cloud. I was thrilled when I had several people that could see that when the penny had too much water on it, the water fell off - just like when a cloud gets too many water droplets it must 'explode' as rain. I love my budding scientists!!
